How to play Ultimate Candy Challenge

Controls adapt to the current trial and are shown in a banner for the first three seconds of each one. Movement trials use the arrows, WASD or drag; timing trials use any single input; gravity trials use one button. The first three seconds of every trial are a grace period during which you cannot lose a life, which is exactly enough time to read the banner and orient.

How to collect candy

  • Candy Drops
  • Gummies
  • Lollipops
  • Chocolate
  • Sugar Crystals

Each trial has its own collection rules, stated in its banner. Catching trials require a basket, dodging trials require touching candy while avoiding hazards, timing trials require a tap in a zone, and gravity trials require flips. Sugar crystals appear in every trial type and are always worth the most, which gives the gauntlet a consistent scoring anchor across otherwise unrelated rounds.

Obstacles and hazards

Every trial brings its own hazards, and the only universal rule is that contact costs one life rather than ending the run. Trials speed up by about ten percent each time the full rotation repeats, so the ninth trial of a run is noticeably faster than the first even though it uses the same rules.

Advertising keeps Candy Arcade free. Ads never cover gameplay or controls.

Power-ups

Extra Life restores one of three lives and appears roughly once per full rotation. Sweet Multiplier doubles values for the remainder of the current trial. Shield absorbs one hazard contact in the current trial only and does not carry across a trial change, which is stated in the banner so that it is never a surprise.

  • Sweet MultiplierTemporarily multiplies the value of every collectible, stacking on top of your combo multiplier.
  • ShieldAbsorbs exactly one hazard contact. What counts as a hazard varies by game and is stated on each game page.
  • Bonus Candy TrailSpawns a temporary trail of high-value candy along a safe route ahead of you.
  • Extra LifeRestores one of your three lives.

Scoring

Each trial scores according to its own rules, and the values are shown in the trial banner. Completing a trial without losing a life awards a clean-trial bonus of five hundred points. Completing a full rotation of all nine trials without losing a life awards a gauntlet bonus of five thousand points, which is the single largest bonus available anywhere on Candy Arcade.

Combo mechanics

Consecutive clean trials build a gauntlet combo, one tier per clean trial to a maximum of five times. Losing a life in any trial resets it. Because a maximum tier requires five consecutive clean trials across five different mechanics, the combo is a direct measure of breadth rather than depth.

Difficulty

Ultimate Candy Challenge is rated Expert relative to the rest of the Candy Arcade library. Difficulty on this site comes from level design, hazard density and timing windows rather than from degrading your controls, and the rating describes how demanding the execution is rather than how complicated the rules are.

The mechanics involved are: Rotating trials, Context switching, Multi-mechanic, Three lives, Escalating trial speed. If this game is too demanding, the reflex & candy arcade games category page lists the easier games that use overlapping skills.

Features

  • Nine distinct trial types drawn from mechanics across the site
  • Thirty-second trials with no advance warning of the next type
  • Three lives, so a failed trial costs progress rather than the run
  • Trial speed increasing every full rotation through the set
  • A per-trial breakdown on the game over screen showing where you lost points

Tips for Ultimate Candy Challenge

  • Use the three-second grace period at the start of every trial to read the banner rather than to act.
  • Shields do not carry between trials, so spend one before a trial ends rather than saving it.
  • The clean-trial bonus of five hundred points usually outweighs anything aggressive play can add - prioritise not losing lives.
  • Trial speed rises ten percent per rotation, so plan to bank your gauntlet bonus on the first rotation.
  • Playing the individual games that each trial is drawn from is the fastest way to improve here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many trial types are there?

Nine, drawn from mechanics used across the site: catching, dodging, timing, collection, gravity, maze, thrust, magnet and pursuit.

Do I know which trial is coming next?

No. Each trial is announced only as it begins, in a banner shown for the first three seconds - which is also a grace period where you cannot lose a life.

What happens when I fail a trial?

You lose one of three lives and the gauntlet continues to the next trial. Only losing all three lives ends the run.

Does a shield carry over between trials?

No. Shields apply only within the current trial, and the banner states this each time.

How do I get better at this game?

Play the individual games each trial is drawn from. The gauntlet tests breadth across mechanics rather than depth in any one of them.
